As Vice President, Don Gates focuses on business development, marketing and business consulting, and delivery of services. He is a problem solver that brings diverse experience to the RainMakers team, in sales management, marketing, and IBM Co-Marketing Offerings.
Before joining RainMakers, Don had an 18-year career with IBM. Most recently, Don was the North America Marketing/Program Manager for the IBM Software Co-Marketing Program. Don’s previous assignments included NA Sales Appointment Setting Program Manager using BAO, Business Unit Marketing Manager for the Great Lakes, Senior Software Sales Rep with ECM software, and Senior Technical Pre-Sales Engineer with ECM software, Technical Account Manager with Lotus, and Consultant with Global Services. Prior to joining IBM, Don was a consultant for Norstan Consulting, MicroAge, and Perot Systems. Lastly, Don started his career with EDS in the SED program.
Don holds a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, a MBA from Wayne State University, and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and General Studies Degree in International Studies from the University of Nebraska. Don is currently enrolled in a Cyber Security program from National Defense University.
Don is currently the President, second term, for the Department of Michigan, Reserve Officers Association.
Don is also an active member of the U.S. Army Reserves as a Colonel, and is currently the 1st Brigade Commander for Gulf Division, 75th Training Command. The unit is located in Fort Jackson, SC, and provides Mission Command/Staff training for Brigade and Battalion level units. Don has completed three combat deployments to Iraq, Horn of Africa, and Afghanistan as a Civil Affairs Officer, and he has initiated and managed over 40 projects with $5M in U.S. Government Funded Humanitarian Assistance infrastructure and reconstruction projects.
Don lives with his family in the Detroit Metro area, with his wife Rola, and two children.
